Anonymous: Kirri, I love Foo Fighters and I've listened to their studio albums, but I want to know them more deeply, where should I start? Demos, shows, things and stuff. Thanks. |
Hey! Hmmm. Things and stuff. Stuff and things. A great place to start if you want to check out explore more of their work might be to check out some of their b-sides. Some people have put together playlists just for the b-sides and this one is pretty good (though incomplete).
Live shows - I’d go through shows from different eras to get an idea of how far they’ve come - shows like Brixton Academy ‘95, Phoenix Festival ‘96, Edgefest ‘98, Big Day Out 2000, Bucknell University 2000, Rock In Rio (‘01 and ‘04), Toronto ‘03, Live Earth ‘07 and Lollapalooza ’12 (hunt around YouTube by year because there are plenty of others, this is just a mixed bag for the sake of example).
Demos - You can’t go past the Million Dollar Demos. That’s the jackpot. There are also demos floating around for early versions of My Hero, DOA and Overdrive (known in the early stages as Gun Beside My Bed). Oh, and there are the early demos of the first album. There’s that. But that. (Actually, I lie, this is the darn tootin’ jackpot. Yee-har.)
Hint: If you hunt around the forums on foofighterslive.com, you’ll find a lot of rare and previously known recordings including bootlegs.
So I hope that gives you an idea of where to start. Might have been info overload. Sorry. I get excited. Sorry. |
